Seniors Lift Titans to Series Win Over UC Riverside
May 2, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

Cal State Fullerton senior Julie Watson was 4-for-4 with two RBI and the Titans' other senior, Jennifer Holt, also had a hit in her final game in front of the hometown fans as Fullerton took the series with UC Riverside thanks to a 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Titan Softball Complex.

Cal State Fullerton improved to 17-29 overall, 6-9 in the Big West Conference, winning a league series for only the second time this season (Cal State Northridge). UC Riverside fell to 12-44, 2-12 in league play.

The Titans wasted no time in getting on the board, plating an unearned run in the first on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Bashor that scored Julie Watson for the 1-0 lead.

After UC Riverside left the bases loaded in the fourth, Cal State Fullerton put up three runs in its half of the inning thanks to an RBI single by Porsha Draper and a two-run double by Watson to make it 4-0.

Candice Baker scored the Titans fifth run in the fifth, moving to third on a ground out by Tiffany Hoff and scoring when the ball got away from the UCR third baseman for the 5-0 advantage.

The Highlanders threatened again in the sixth, loading the bases with one out, but Titan starter Brooke Weekley (13-15) induced a pair of ground balls to end the threat.

Fullerton capped the scoring with another run in the sixth as pinch-hitter Marisa Trevino came all the way around to score from first base on Watson's fourth hit of the day, a single down the right field line that was misplayed by the fielder.

Weekley had a no-hitter through three innings and allowed just four hits in tossing her third shutout of the season. She walked two and struck out four.

Sara Radabaugh (2-7), who stymied the Titans in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, suffered the loss for the Highlanders, allowing three earned on seven hits, walking one and striking out one. Jenell Jackson pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.

Draper added a pair of hits for the Titans, while three others added base knocks for Cal State Fullerton. The top four batters in UCR's lineup accounted for the Highlanders' four hits on the afternoon.

The Titans hit the road next weekend for their pentultimate Big West Conference series, heading to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly in a three-game series beginning on Saturday (May 8) with a doubleheader at noon and concluding with a single game on Sunday (May 9), also at noon.
