Olympians Down Fullerton, 10-0, in Kia Opener

Lisa Fernandez pitched a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts and the U.S. Olympic Team slugged three home runs on the night as Team USA defeated Cal State Fullerton, 10-0, in five innings on Wednesday night at the Titan Softball Complex.

The game was an exhibition in the overall standings, but count toward the pool play portion of the 2004 Kia Klassic.

Crystl Bustos was 3-for-4 for Team USA, with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Leah O'Brien-Amico added a pair of hits while six other players had one hit.

The Titans were led by Julie Watson, Lindsey Bashor, and Candice Baker, who each had one hit on the night.

Weekley earned the loss, throwing 2 1/3 innings and allowing a run on three hits, with five walks and a strikeout. On a staff night, Baker and Porsha Draper also saw action in the circle.

Jenny Topping, making her return to the Titan Softball Complex where she starred for three seasons for Cal State Fullerton, earning first-team All-America honors all three seasons, went 1-for-3, her only hit an opposite field three-run home run in the fourth.

Amanda Freed and Jamie Clark also had home runs for the Olympians.

Play in the Kia Klassic continues on Thursday at 9 a.m. on both fields of the Titan Softball Complex.
