Georgia Slams Titans in Day One Nightcap

Georgia's Courtney Knight and Shannon McKeon each had thre RBI while pitcher Katie Griffith struck out 12 batters on the night as the No. 6 Bulldogs run-ruled Cal State Fullerton, 12-0, in five innings on Friday night at the Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.

The Titans, who defeated Bethune-Cookman College earlier in the day, fell to 3-4 overall on the season. Georgia improved to 8-1 overall.

Freshman pitcher Candice Baker (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing 10 earned on 11 hits, walking four and striking out three. Griffith (4-0) remained undefeated, scattering four hits in the five-inning shutout, walking one.

Senior Julie Watson went 3-for-3 in the leadoff spot for the Titans while junior Melissa Hughes had Fullerton other hit.

Georgia scored a run in each of the first four innings. Eight of the nine Bulldogs starters had at least one hit while the top three batters in the order went 5-for-11 with five runs scored and five RBI.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 21) as the Titans take on Baylor and No. 2 Arizona.
