Cal State Fullerton freshman Tiffany Hoff went 2-for-3 with a pair of
RBI and freshman Brooke Weekley pitched a four-hitter as the Titans opened
the Palm Springs Classic with a 3-1 win over Bethune-Cookman College on
Friday afternoon at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Cathedral City,
Calif.
Fullerton evened its record at 3-3 overall on the season and will meet
No. 6 Georgia at approximately 5:30 p.m. Details on that game will follow
as soon as possible following the conclusion of the contest.
Weekley (2-1) earned her second career victory, allowing one run on four
hits, walking only two and striking out five in the complete-game effort.
Lauren McCoy (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits
in six innings.
Senior Jennifer Holt got the Titans on the board early in the second,
smacking a two-out double to score Weekley all the way from first base
for the 1-0 lead.
Hoff drove in a pair in the third inning with a single to centerfield,
scoring Jenna Wheeler and Julie Watson for the 3-0 advantage.
Bethune-Cookman got on the board in the fourth, on an RBI single to right
by Krista Schile.
However, that's all the Wildcats would be able to muster against Weekley,
who sat down 10 of the next 12 batters over the next 3 2/3 innings, allowing
only a hit and a walk in that span.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 21) as the Titans
take on Baylor and No. 2 Arizona.
