Titans Tame Tigers in Kia Bracket Play Mar. 20, 2004 - Fullerton, Calif.

Lindsey Bashor broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the top of the eighth
and Candice Baker gave the Titans a much-needed insurance run as Cal State
Fullerton won its Kia Klassic bracket play opener, 5-4, over Pacific on
Saturday morning.
Fullerton improved to 8-18 overall and earned its first win of the 2004
tournament.
Brooke Weekley (5-8) earned the win, allowing three earned on eight hits
and striking out six. Jennifer Dacre suffered the loss, allowing four
earned on nine hits in 7 1/3 innings.
The Titans got on the board with a pair in the third as Carolyn Bullard
led off with her first career hit and scored on a double by Bashor for
the 1-0 lead. Jody Campbell singled home the second run on the next pitch
for the 2-0 Titans lead.
Pacific answered back in the fourth, as Brittany Hyams singled down the
left field line, scoring pinch-runner Jennifer Harrell to cut the deficit
to 2-1. Gina Carbonatto then drove in the tying run by drawing a two-out,
bases-loaded walk.
The Tigers took their first lead of the game in the fifth when a double
to center by Crystal Presson scored Jennifer Curtier from first base,
giving Pacific the 3-2 advantage.
That would only last an inning as the Titans retied the game on an RBI
fielder's choice by Baker, scoring Bashor to send the game into extra
innings.
Bashor finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, whil Julie Watson and
Tiffany Hoff each finished with two hits. Curtier and Presson finished
with two hits apiece for Pacific, including a pair of doubles by Presson.
The Tigers stranded nine runners for the game while the Titans left six
on base.
Cal State Fullerton will next face No. 4 Florida State in the second round
of bracket play beginning at approximately 7 p.m. Gametracker will be
