Gladding Lifts Gators to 2-0 Win Over
Titans Mar. 11, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.
Box Score Florida capitalized on three Cal State Fullerton errors,
including two miscues in the fifth inning to push across the go-ahead
run, and starter Jenny Gladding struck out 12 in the circle as the No.
21 Gators defeated the host Titans, 2-0, on Thursday night at the Titan
Softball Complex.
The Titans fell to 7-15 overall while Florida improved to 22-3 overall.
Florida's Jenny Gladding (10-2) was masterful in the circle, tossing four
innings of no-hit ball until Candice Baker singled up the middle to start
the fifth. Gladding struck out every Titan starter at least once, while
scattering only three hits in the complete-game shutout. It was her ninth
double-digit strikeout game of the season.
Brooke Weekley (4-6) pitched very well in the loss, scattering only three
hits and allowing an unearned run in the complete game effort.
Florida struck first after the two teams dueled through 4 2/3 scoreless
innings. The Gators loaded the bases with two outs and scored when Lauren
Roussell's potential inning-ending ground ball was misplayed, allowing
Lindsay Norfleet to score for the 1-0 lead.
The Gators added another run in the seventh on an RBI double to left centerfield
by Jenilee Garner, scoring Mandy Schuerman to make it 2-0.
Gladding then got the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh before
allowing a single to Tiffany Hoff. She then induced pinch-hitter Porsha
Draper to pop up to third base to end the game.
Monica Tantlinger had the other hit for the Titans, while three different
batters had hits for the Gators.
Fullerton returns to action next Tuesday (March 16) when the Titans play
host to Princeton in a single game beginning at 5 p.m. That contest will
be followed by an exhibition contest between Pacific and the U.S. Olympic
Team beginning at approximately 7 p.m.
