'Noles Eliminate Titans to Advance to

Florida State's Jessica van der Linden drove in the game-winner with an
RBI single in the first and Casey Hunter made it stand up from the circle
as the No. 4 Seminoles eliminated Cal State Fullerton from the Kia Klassic
with a 3-0 win on Saturday night.
Cal State Fullerton fell to 8-19 overall while Florida State improved
to 35-4. The Seminoles advance to play Washington in Sunday's second semifinal
at approximately 11 a.m.
Casey Hunter (19-1) struck out eight in the complete-game effort, outdueling
Candice Baker (3-11), who allowed three runs on five hits and struck out
four.
Florida State jumped out to the early lead in the bottom of the first,
cashing in on RBI singles by Jessica van der Linden and Beth Wade for
the 2-0 lead.
Carly Brieske's RBI single back up the middle in the second extended the
Seminoles' lead to 3-0 and they went looking for more, loading the bases
with two outs.
The Titans had their best chance to score in the fifth, putting runners
on second and third with two outs, but Hunter got Lindsey Bashor to pop
up to the circle to end the inning.
Julie Watson paced Fullerton's offense, smacking three of the Titans'
four hits and going 3-for-4 on the night. Baker had the other Fullerton
hit, a single in the second inning, but was left stranded at third.
Five different Florida State players had hits as neither team tallied
an extra base hit in the game.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Wednesday (March 24) as the Titans
take on Northwestern in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
