Davis' One-Hitter Shuts Down Titans
May 14, 2004 – Santa Barbara, Calif.

Box Score

UC Santa Barbara freshman Jennifer Davis pitched 6 1/3 innings of no-hit softball, eventually finishing with a one-hitter and eight strikeouts as the Gauchos defeated visiting Cal State Fullerton, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at Campus Diamond.

The loss snapped a 19-game winning streak dating back to 1998 against UCSB for Cal State Fullerton, which dropped to 17-33 overall and 6-13 in the Big West. The Gauchos improved to 31-28 overall, 13-6 in league play.

Davis faced just three batters over the minimum, tossing a perfect game through 3 1/3 until Monica Tantlinger drew a walk for the Titans' first baserunner in the fourth. Fullerton didn't break through against Davis until Lindsey Bashor singled to left with one out in the seventh.

Leslie Simien, Birttany Putich, and Jessica Hejna each had two hits for the Gauchos, who pounded Fullerton starter Brooke Weekley (13-17) for 11 hits in the game. Katie Oliver added a huge two-run pinch hit double in the fourth.

UCSB scored the eventual game-winning run in the third on a bases-loaded walk to Lindsey Herrin and added three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. The Gauchos left 11 runners on base, including a runner at third in the fifth and sixth which would have ended the game due to the run-rule.

Cal State Fullerton had just four baserunners in the game.

The two teams close out the 2004 regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday (May 15) beginning at Noon.
