Holt's Home Run Lifts Titans in Nine Innings
Apr. 18, 2004 – Stockton, Calif.

Box Score

Jennifer Holt's ninth inning home run lifted Cal State Fullerton to a 4-3 victory over the Pacific softball team in the final game of a three-game Big West Conference series on Sunday, Apr. 18, at Bill Simoni Field.

With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 28-13 overall and 6-3 in Big West Conference action. Cal State Fullerton improved to 14-26 overall (3-6 Big West).

Cal State Fullerton struck first in the game, plating a pair of runs on Candice Baker's two-run first inning double to take a 2-0 lead. The Titans pushed their cushion to 3-0 in the top of the seventh, as Jenna Wheeler led off the inning with her second home run of the season.

Pacific's bats came to life in the home half of the seventh. After the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs, junior Ashlie D'Errico (Lancaster, Calif.) doubled home Gina Carbonatto (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and Brittany Hyams (Huntington Beach, Calif.) to cut the deficit to 3-2. Freshman Jennifer Curtier (Lancaster, Calif.) followed with a run-scoring single to knot the game at 3-3 and force extra innings.

The game remained deadlocked at 3-3 until the top of the ninth, when Holt drove a two-out Jennifer Dacre (Elk Grove, Calif.) offering over the left field fence to put the Titans up 4-3.

Pacific once again loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half of the inning. Freshman Lizzie Hagen (Anaheim, Calif.) then hit a long drive down the left field line that cleared the fence, but was ruled foul by the third base umpire. Hagen proceeded to strike out swinging to end the game.

Dacre took the loss for the Tigers in the circle to fall to 12-7 on the season. She allowed two earned runs and six hits in eight innings of relief, while striking out seven.

Brooke Weekley went the distance for Cal State Fullerton to improve to 10-12.

D'Errico was 2-for-4 in the contest for Pacific with a double and two RBI.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action next weekend, hosting a three-game series against archrival Long Beach State at the Titan Softball Complex. The series opens with a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 24) at noon and concludes with a single game on Sunday (Apr. 25) at noon.
