Sweep Big West Twinbill From Titans Apr. 17, 2004 Stockton, Calif. Box Score - Game One | Box Score - Game Two Senior Jennifer Dacre (Elk Grove, Calif.) and junior Natalie King (Huntington Beach, Calif.) combined for two complete games and held the Cal St. Fullerton Titans to two runs as the No. 23 Pacific softball team swept a Big West Conference doubleheader at home on Saturday, Apr. 17, at Bill Simoni Field. The Tigers' won by the scores of 7-1 in the opener and a 2-1 in the nightcap. With the two wins, Pacific improved to 28-12 overall and 6-2 in Big West Conference action. Cal St. Fullerton dropped to 13-26 overall and 2-6 in Big West play. King and Titans' pitcher, Brooke Weekley, matched each other pitch for pitch through four shutout innings in game one. The Tigers then struck in the bottom of the fifth, when they plated seven runs on six hits, including three doubles, to blow open the game. With the bases loaded and one down, junior Ashlie D'Errico (Lancaster, Calif.) laced a two-run double to right field, plating freshman Gina Carbonatto (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and senior Nicole Inouye (Aiea, Hawai'i) to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. After freshman Jennifer Curtier (Lancaster, Calif.) reached by way of a fielder's choice, junior Brandi Gordon (Redmond, Wash.) came up with her third hit of the game, plating junior Michelle Anunciation (Chino Hills, Calif) and the Tigers led 3-0. Freshman Lizzie Hagen (Anaheim, Calif.) then smashed another two-run double to right center field and Pacific led 5-0. Sophomore Kristin Allen finished off the scoring by hitting a two-run double down the third base line and the Tigers led after five innings, 7-0. King took care of the rest, scattering five hits, including Lindsey Bashor's eighth home run of the year, allowing one run, and ringing up five batters in her seven innings of work to pick up her 12th win of the season. The Tigers as a team pounded out 11 hits, led by Gordon's three. Game two saw Pacific jump out to a quick 1-0 lead after one inning on Curtier's RBI double to center field that plated Carbonatto, who had reached on an error. Cal St. Fullerton answered right back in the second inning with a long home run by Tiffany Hoff over the left field fence and the score was tied at 1-1. Curtier gave the Tigers the lead for good in the third inning with a bomb to right field that easily cleared the fence and gave Pacific the 2-1 lead and the win. Dacre went the distance, allowing the one run on six hits, while walking one and striking out four. She matched King with her 12th win of the season and is now 12-6. Brooke Weekley suffered both loss for the Titans as she went a combined 10 and 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 16 hits in the two games. She fell to 9-12 on the season. Pacific will finish off the three game series against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, Apr. 18, at noon at Bill Simoni Field. ####
