Syracuse Sends Titans Home With 6-3 Loss
Feb. 15, 2004 – Phoenix, Ariz.

Box Score

Syracuse scored four runs in the first inning and pitcher Courtney Mosch allowed just four hits over seven innings, handing Cal State Fullerton a 6-3 loss on Sunday morning in the final game of the ASU Fiesta Bowl Classic at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Titans fell to 2-3 overall to start the season while the Orangewomen earned their first win of the year.

Weekley (1-1) sufferend the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in the complete game effort. She was hurt by nine walks on the day to only four strikeouts. Mosch allowed only one earned in seven innings, walking three and striking out five in the win.

Fullerton looked the be the agressor in the beginning, scoring a pair of runs in the opening inning on a throwing error by the catcher and an RBI single by Candice Baker for the 2-0 lead.

It didn't last long, however, as back-to-back RBI singles by Alexis Switenko and Cassie Morales evened the score at 2-2 with one out in the first. Syracuse added two more later in the inning on a bases-loaded walk to Mosch and an RBI base hit by Jaime Grillo to make it 4-2.

Mosch then dominated the Titans' bats, retiring 13 of the next 14 batters, allowing only freshman Tiffany Hoff to reach on an error by the shortstop in the fourth inning during that stretch.

The Orangewomen added single runs in the third and fourth on run-scoring singles by Tiffany Robinson and Melissa Kelly to complete their scoring.

Fullerton finally got going in the seventh, putting the first two batters in the inning on thanks to errors and loading the bases when Julie Watson reached on an infield single.

Jennifer Holt's RBI fielder's choice got the Titans to within 6-3, but Lindsey Bashor's fly ball to right was caught and Monica Tantlinger was thrown out at the plate for a game-ending double-play.

Watson had two hits to lead the Titans while Bashor and Baker each added another hit on the day.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action next weekend as they travel up the 10 freeway to Cathedral City, Calif., to participate in the Palm Springs Classic hosted by Oregon State.
