Three Titans Named to All-Big West Teams May 18, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton senior outfielder Julie Watson was named to the All-Big
West Conference First Team while two other Titans also earned all-conference
honors the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
With her honor, Watson gives the Titans at least one first-team honoree
in each of the last seven seasons. The senior from Valencia finished second
in the Big West Conference in batting during the regular season, hitting
a career-best .426 with a league-leading 78 hits. She also ranked second
in stolen bases with 18 and drove in 16 runs on the year from the leadoff
spot.
Watson, who earned her first career all-conference honor this season,
finished tied for sixth in the league in total bases (87), 10th in slugging
(.475), sixth in on base percentage (.441), tied for fifth in runs scored
(31), and seventh in at bats (183).
She had a team-best 13 game hitting streak, during which she went 24-for-46
at the plate (.522) with eight runs scored and four RBI. Watson finished
with hits in 15 of her final 16 games and led the team with 26 multi-hit
games – including six three-hit performances and two four-hit games.
Junior outfielder Lindsey Bashor earned second-team honors for the Titans
after hitting .277 with a team-high nine home runs and a team-best 27
RBI in her first season in a Fullerton uniform. She finished second on
the team in average, runs scored (25), and hits (41).
Bashor finished sixth in the league in slugging (.500), tied for second
in walks (27), 10th in on-base percentage (.386), and third in home runs.
Freshman Jenna Wheeler was named to the honorable mention squad after
a rookie season that saw her hit just .227 overall, but hit .305 in Big
West games with three home runs and 14 RBI. She led the team in conference
play in home runs and runs driven in, while finishing third on the team
in hitting.
