2003 Softball
Assistant coach Terry Schweikert enters her second season as Michelle Gromacki’s top assistant after spending the pervious five years at a pair of Big 12 schools. Hired in July, 2001, Schweikert is Gromacki’s “defensive coordinator” and recruiting coordinator. Schweikert came to Fullerton after a three-year stint at the University of Nebraska as an assistant coach under Rhonda Revelle. She helped the Cornhuskers to regional final appearances in 1999 and 2000 and played a hand in Nebraska’s back-to-back 2000 and 2001 Big 12 championships. Schweikert, who also assisted Revelle in recruiting, worked primarily with the middle infielders and coached two-time All-American Jennifer Lizama. In addition, Schweikert coordinated and directed camps, clinics and community outreach programs for Nebraska. Previously, Schweikert was an assistant coach during the 1997-98 seasons at her alma mater, Missouri. Schweikert helped the Tigers win a Big 12 title and return to the NCAA Tournament in 1997. In 1998, Missouri reached as high as ninth in the NFCA Top-25 poll. “Terry has been involved with some nationally reputable programs and I think that experience will be invaluable,” Gromacki said. “She certainly has shown that she can effectively work with student-athletes.” Schweikert played softball for Missouri from 1982 to 1985, earning Missouri’s Rookie-of-the-Year honors as a freshman and Player-of-the-Year honors as a junior. She helped the Tigers to their only Big Eight Tournament title and first College World Series appearance in 1984. During her junior and senior years, Schweikert captained the Tigers and was named all-region both seasons. After earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education, Schweikert returned to her hometown of Springfield, Mo., to serve as the head swimming coach, head volleyball coach and assistant basketball coach at Parkview High School. She also spent four years at Hopkins High School in Minnesota, where she served as the head softball coach and led her teams to two state tournaments. In 1996, she led Hopkins to a perfect 14-0 conference mark and was named the Minnesota High School Coach of the Year. Throughout her coaching career, Schweikert has continued to play softball competitively. In 1990, she was named an Amateur Softball Association All-American while winning a national championship. Schweikert currently resides in Placentia. Her parents are Bill and Dorothy.
