The Cal State Fullerton softball team moved up three spots in the first
regular season USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division
I Top 25 released on Feb. 19, ranking seventh in the nation, up from a
preseason No. 10 ranking.
The Titans, who are 10-4 overall on the season, will face (or have faced)
16 teams either ranked or receiving votes in this weeks poll with
the possibility of facing eight others in tournament play.
UCLA received 19 of 22 first-place votes and is ranked No. 1 for the second
consecutive week with a 9-1 record with the lone loss coming against
Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 1. Arizona, which also received a first-place
vote, is second in the nation, followed closely by Nebraska in third.
California and Washington round out the top five with Texas in sixth,
receiving the remaining two first-place votes.
Fullerton has faced ranked opposition in nine of its first 14 games this
year, posting a 6-3 mark in those contests.
The Titans return to action this weekend as they travel to Columbus, Ga.,
to participate in the 2003 NFCA Leadoff Classic. Fullerton opens with
a pair of games on Friday (Feb. 21) against No. 9 LSU and No. 10 Oklahoma
and continues on Saturday (Feb. 22) with a contest against Villanova before
championship bracket play begins.
