#10 Oklahoma 3, #7 Cal State Fullerton 0 | Box
Score
Oklahoma's Kami Keiter had a no-hitter through five innings and Kelli
Braitsch's two-run single in the fourth gave the Sooners the only runs
they would need as they shutout No. 7 Cal State Fullerton, 3-0, on Sunday
morning at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga.
The Titans fell to 11-5 overall and saw their five-game winning streak
snapped. Oklahoma improved to 7-2 overall.
Keiter (7-1) allowed just one hit (a Gina Oaks single to right in the
sixth) and stranded six Titans, including the bases loaded with only one
out in the sixth. Jodie Cox (3-4) pitched well for the Titans, striking
out 10 batters on the day, but walked seven batters on the day.
Oklahoma added another run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by April
Valdez to cap the scoring.
Cal State Fullerton senior Gina Oaks faced just one batter over the minimum
in the circle and seniors Amy LaRocque and Krista O'Hanian each added
RBI hits in the fourth to help lead the Titans to a 3-0 victory over Villanova
in the final game of the 2003 NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga.
Fullerton improved to 12-5 overall while the Wildcats fell to 0-3.
Cal State Fullerton got on the board first in the fourth, all with two
outs, when LaRocque, who had been hitless in her last 29 at bats (a span
of 10-plus games), laced a single into centerfield with two on to score
Jodie Cox and give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
O'Hanian followed with runners on second and third and roped a shot back
up the middle to score two more and increase the Titans' lead to 3-0.
Oaks, who has won her last five consecutive starts, improved to 9-1 overall
on the year, facing just one batter over the minimum while throwing just
62 pitches. Oaks retired the last 13 batters she faced and allowed just
one hit to Kristen Strait in the third.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action next weekend when they host the
10-team Worth Invitational at the Titan Softball Complex.
