Jodie Cox Named 2003 Canada Cup MVP July 14, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
Former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Jodie Cox was named the Most Valuable
Player of the 2003 Canada Cup, helping lead the USA National Elite Team
to an 11-1 record and the Canada Cup Championship.
Cox, who completed her eligibility with the Titans last season, was 3-0
in five appearances for the Elite Team without allowing an earned run
in 19 innings pitched. She walked five batters and struck out 15 while
holding opponents to a .134 batting average.
She earned a victory in an 8-1 win over Chinese Taipei on July 5, holding
the opposition to an unearned run on three hits in four innings of work.
Three days later, Cox tossed a complete-game, 7-0 shutout against the
White Rock Renegades. She threw six innings, allowing a pair of hits and
striking out eight batters while walking two.
She earned a no decision in a start against Canada, allowing a pair of
unearned runs on two hits in four innings. She also threw three innings
of no-hit softball against the US National Team as the Elite Team won
1-0.
In the tournament championship game against Australia, Cox threw two innings
of no-hit softball to earn the win as the Elite Team defeated Australia,
2-0, in 10 innings. It was the third-straight Canada Cup title for a US
National Team.
The US Elite Team now heads to San Francisco to take on the Australian
National Team in a six-game series beginning on Thursday (July 17) at
Stanford University.
