July 14, 2003 – Fullerton, Calif.

Former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Jodie Cox was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2003 Canada Cup, helping lead the USA National Elite Team to an 11-1 record and the Canada Cup Championship.

Cox, who completed her eligibility with the Titans last season, was 3-0 in five appearances for the Elite Team without allowing an earned run in 19 innings pitched. She walked five batters and struck out 15 while holding opponents to a .134 batting average.

She earned a victory in an 8-1 win over Chinese Taipei on July 5, holding the opposition to an unearned run on three hits in four innings of work.

Three days later, Cox tossed a complete-game, 7-0 shutout against the White Rock Renegades. She threw six innings, allowing a pair of hits and striking out eight batters while walking two.

She earned a no decision in a start against Canada, allowing a pair of unearned runs on two hits in four innings. She also threw three innings of no-hit softball against the US National Team as the Elite Team won 1-0.

In the tournament championship game against Australia, Cox threw two innings of no-hit softball to earn the win as the Elite Team defeated Australia, 2-0, in 10 innings. It was the third-straight Canada Cup title for a US National Team.

The US Elite Team now heads to San Francisco to take on the Australian National Team in a six-game series beginning on Thursday (July 17) at Stanford University.
