2002 Softball
2001 (Sophomore): Cox emerged as one of the Titans' aces, posting a 19-6 overall record with a 1.70 ERA en route to All-Big West First Team honors • twice named Big West Pitcher of the Week (2/5, 3/5) • she struck out 174 batters in 160.1 innings while allowing only 104 hits and 54 runs (39 earned) • started 26 of 27 appearances, throwing 19 complete games and tossing 11 shutouts • held the opposition to just a .181 batting average • threw her first career perfect game against Minnesota (3/3) • hit just .252 with two home runs, 25 RBI, and five doubles while walking 18 times • had a season-high six-game hitting streak during which she hit .350 (7-for-20) with six runs and eight RBI • ranks 10th on the all-time strikeouts list with 300 and 11th on the single-season list with 174 • ranks ninth on the career shutouts list with 17 and has 32 complete games for her career for 12th place. 2000 (Freshman): Cox made 23 starts in 26 appearances to post a team-best 17-4 record and a 1.48 ERA en route to Second-Team All-Big West honors • threw 13 complete games and shutout opponents six times • allowed just 101 hits in 142.1 innings, walking 74 batters and striking out 126 • allowed 51 runs (30 earned) and held opponents to a .195 average, which led the conference • threw her first career no-hitter against Utah (2/11) • hit .309 on the year with four home runs and 16 RBI • notched nine doubles and three triples while slugging .487. QUARTZ HILL HS: Named both the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News San Fernando Player of the Year in 1998 and ‘99 • a four-year varsity softball and soccer player who earned CIF Player of the Year honors in 1998 when her team won the CIF championship • was All-CIF three seasons and league MVP all four years • was the Antelope Valley female scholar/athlete of the year during her senior year • also was an all-league soccer player for three seasons and an all-league volleyball player for two years • 1999 pitching record at Quartz Hill was 25-2, with 12 home runs to her credit and 34 RBI • earned first-team ASA All-American honors (1998) while playing for former Titans Pam Newton and Chenita Rogers on the Flash D' Gold 18-under team. PERSONAL: Born August 14, 1981, in Lancaster • parents are Lynn and Gary • has two younger sisters, Kellie (who plays soccer for the Titans) and Shannon • cites winning CIF in 1998 as her most memorable sports thrill and hitting a home run in that game • chose Fullerton because of the coaching staff, the location and the reputation of the program, over Northridge, Cal Poly, Utah and Oklahoma.
