Cox Drives in Seven for Titans' 24th Straight Win Mar. 30, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score
Cal State Fullerton junior Jodie Cox was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple
and seven RBI to help lead the Titans' to help extend the nation's longest
winning streak to 24 games and defeat host Utah State, 13-0, in five innings
on Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference softball game in Logan,
Utah.
Fullerton improved to 33-9 overall and 9-0 in the Big West. The Titans
have not lost since splitting a doubleheader at UCLA on Feb. 27 and also
extended their Big West Conference winning streak to 14 games dating back
to last season. The Aggies fell to 3-28 overall and 0-6 in the Big West.
For Cox, it was her first three-hit game of the season and her highest
RBI output of the year. Junior infielder Amy LaRocque was also 3-for-4
with three RBI while Yasmin Mossadeghi, Brittany Ziegler and Heather Saltarelli
each had an RBI in the rout.
Senior pitcher Christy Robitaille (7-3) went the distance, allowing just
three hits and striking out six for the victory. Kristin Hommel (1-11)
allowed five runs on three hits and walked two in suffering in the loss.
The rout was on from the start as the Titans sent 11 batters to the plate
in the first inning, knocking Hommel out of the game after only 1/3 of
an inning. Fullerton added two runs in the second and set 11 batters to
the plate once again in a five-run third inning.
Meanwhile, the Aggies mustered only six baserunners on the day, with only
two of those players reaching second base.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Thursday (Apr. 4) as the Titans
take on San Diego State in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Fullerton
will then continue Big West play on Apr. 6-7 as it hosts rival Long Beach
State for a three game series beginning at 1 p.m. on both days. All games
will be played at the Titan Softball Complex.
