Continue to Roll With Wins Over Utah State Mar. 29, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Game One Box Score Game Two The No. 7 Cal State Fullerton softball team extended its winning streak to 23 consecutive games on Friday afternoon as the Titans swept a doubleheader from Utah State in a Big West Conference match-up at Johnson Field in Logan, Utah, by the scores of 2-0 and 11-2 in five innings. The winning streak is the third-longest in school history, surpassing the 22 straight games won during the 1982 season. The next longest winning streak is 25 consecutive games set during the 1984 season. The Titans improved to 32-9 overall and 8-0 in Big West play. Utah State fell to 3-27 overall and 0-5 in league action. In game one, a solo home run by Jenny Topping and an RBI double by Jodie Cox in the first inning were all the runs that Gina Oaks would need as the junior tossed the second no-hitter of the season for the Titans and the first of her career in a Titan uniform as Fullerton triumphed, 2-0. Cal State Fullerton managed just three hits off Utah State starter Kristin Hommel (1-10), but that would be all they would need as Oaks (15-2) struck out eight en route to the complete game victory. In game two, it would be the Titan bats taking center stage as Fullerton sent 12 batters to the plate in an eight-run third inning en route to an 11-2, five-inning victory. Jodie Cox (11-4) won her seventh consecutive decision, allowing just two runs (both unearned) on two hits while striking out four. Lindsay Janssen (1-12) took the loss for the Aggies, allowing nine runs (three earned) in 2 2/3 innings before giving way to Xochitl Ramirez in the third inning. Senior Monica Lucatero was the big hitter for the Titans, going 1-for-1 at the plate with a sacrifice fly in the first to score Fullerton's first run and capping off the scoring in the big third inning with a bases-clearing double. She also walked twice in the game. Amanda Hockett had an two-run double, Brittany Ziegler was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cox added two hits and two runs to help her own cause. In a season of firsts, freshman Heather Saltarelli slugged her first career home run, a two-run shot down the right field line in the fourth inning for her first career hit. The Titans and Aggies conclude the series on Saturday afternoon at 11 a.m. PST before heading home for a quick four-game homestand featuring games against San Diego State and Long Beach State. ####
