Titans Ranked No. 10 in NFCA Preseason Poll
Jan. 23, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif.

Fullerton, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball team will begin its 2002 campaign ranked as the No. 10 team in the country according to the nation’s softball coaches as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its 2002 preseason poll on Wednesday morning.

Defending national champion Arizona was ranked as the top team in the nation, barely edging last year’s runner-up UCLA by 13 votes. Stanford, Louisiana State and California round out the top five.

The Titans finished the 2001 season with a 48-14 overall record, advanced to the postseason for the 20th time in 22 years and ended the year with a No. 12 national ranking. Cal State Fullerton was also 19-2 in the Big West to earn its second consecutive Big West Conference championship.

The Titans return 13 letterwinners, all nine starters in the field and all three pitchers from last years team, including First-Team All-American Jenny Topping, who led the Titans in 11 different offensive categories.

Cal State Fullerton opens the season on Jan. 29 as they take on the University of San Diego in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at the Titan Softball Complex.
