Sweep Big West Player's of the Week... Again Mar. 18, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Cal State Fullerton juniors Jenny Topping and Gina Oaks earned Big West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. It is the third consecutive week that a Titan has earned both honors. Topping and Oaks won it the week of March 4 while Oaks and Monica Lucatero earned league honors on March 11. Topping (Whittier, Calif./La Habra HS) could have been named the MVP of last weeks Kia Klassic if there were an all-tournament team. She hit .696 for the seven games, including 11 runs scored, six home runs and 13 RBI. On Sunday, Topping hit the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to beat Texas, 2-0, and give the Titans their second consecutive tournament title. She also added two doubles, four walks, slugged 1.565 for the tournament and amassed a .714 on base percentage. Topping had three hits in a game three different times and slugged two home runs in a 9-0 win over New Mexico. Oaks (Alta Loma, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) shared the honors for the second consecutive week, this time with Cal State Northridges Jenny Wheeler, after posting a perfect 2-0 record with another no decision during the Kia Klassic. She did not allow a single run during the tournament and struck out 19 batters in 19 innings. Oaks scattered six total hits while holding No. 6 Oklahoma to three hits and No. 10 Fresno State to just one hit in the victories. In the championship game on Sunday, Oaks held Texas scoreless for five innings and allowed just two hits before giving way to Christy Robitaille in a game the Titans would eventually win. Cal State Fullerton returns to action this weekend as it continues Big West Conference play with a three-game series against Cal State Northridge. The series kicks off with a doubleheader on Saturday (March 23) beginning at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Titan Softball Complex. ####
