Titans Sweep Big West Player's of the Week
Mar. 5, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton junior catcher Jenny Topping and junior pitcher Gina Oaks made it a clean sweep for the Titans as they earned both Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, the conference office announced on Monday.

Topping (Whittier, Calif./Univ. of Washington) hit .435 in her first significant action of the season after missing the first month due to injury. She smacked her first home run of the year against #11 Oregon State in the first inning on Sunday, drove in three runs, and walked six times.

After catching her first game of the season behind the plate in the second game of a doubleheader against top-ranked UCLA, Topping led the team in batting average at Cal State Fullerton’s Worth Invitational last weekend and knocked home the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to beat #6 California, 2-1.

Oaks (Alta Loma, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) earned the victory in five of Cal State Fullerton’s seven wins last week, including wins against #1 UCLA, #6 California and #11 Oregon State. She tossed three complete games and a shutout while allowing just two runs in five appearances. Had a combined ERA of 0.53 over that stretch and struck out 22 batters in 26.1 innings.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Wednesday (March 6) at 5 p.m. as the Titans host a doubleheader with Florida at the Titan Softball Complex.
