The No. 7 Cal State Fullerton softball completed the sweep of Cal State Northridge on Sunday afternoon as junior shortstop Amanda Hockett drove a 1-1 pitch from Tanya Ledesma over the left centerfield fence to invoke the eight-run rule and clinch a 10-2 victory in five innings in front of 427 fans at the Titan Softball Complex.

Fullerton has won its last 21 consecutive games, and stands just one victory short of tying the third-longest winning streak in school history set in 1982. The Titans are 30-9 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Big West Conference. Cal State Northridge fell to 18-14 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Jodie Cox won her second straight game in the series after picking up the win in relief on Saturday night in the Titans’ 3-2, eight inning win over the Matadors. Cox (10-4) allowed two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out four in her 10th complete game of the season.

Kia Fennell (5-7) took the loss for Northridge, allowing three runs on three hits and walking two in 1 1/3 innings.

Hockett led Fullerton at the plate with her 2-for-3 day with two runs scored and two RBI. She added a two-run single to left in the fourth in addition to her fifth inning home run.

Hockett also broke her own school single-season record with her 14th hit by pitch this season in the first inning. Hockett set the mark with 13 back in her freshman season. She has now been hit 35 times in her career, which stands as the school’s career record.

Junior Jenny Topping was also 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI and joined three other Titans with two hits. Cal State Fullerton banged out four doubles on the day, all of them coming in a four-run second inning.

Sondra Milchiker was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Cal State Northridge.

The Titans have now won the last six straight games against the Matadors and nine of the last 10 dating back to the 1999 season.

Cal State Fullerton now hits the road after spending the last three weeks at home as the Titans travel to Logan, Utah to take on Utah State on March 29-30.
