Cox Named
Big West Pitcher of the Week Apr. 8, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. For the first time this season, Cal State Fullerton junior left-hander Jodie Cox was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week the conference office announced on Monday morning. It is the fifth time this season that a Titan pitcher has earned the leagues weekly honor, as junior Gina Oaks as won it four times. It is the fifth time in the last six weeks that a Titan has either won or shared pitcher of the week honors in the Big West Conference. Cox (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill HS) won both her starts this past week, both via the eight-run mercy rule, over San Diego State and Long Beach State. She did not allow an earned run in 11 innings pitched while scattering only four hits including tossing a one-hitter over the Aztecs on April 4. She also struck out 14 batters and walked just two this past week. Cox is 13-4 overall this season with a 1.60 ERA. She has tossed 13 complete games and four shutouts thus far as well as striking out 135 batters in 100 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting just .188 off of her this year. Cal State Fullerton returns to action this Thursday (April 11) as the Titans travel to Loyola Marymount for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. ####
