Knee Surgery for Former Titan Oughton
Apr. 20, 2005– Columbus, OH

Columbus Crew midfielder/defender Duncan Oughton will miss the rest of the season because of torn cartilage in his right knee.

Oughton, a native of New Zealand in his fifth year with the MLS team, injured his knee in the Crew's final playoff game against New England on Oct. 31.

He had surgery in November and attempted rehab, but the team announced Wednesday that he needs cartilage transplant surgery within the next two or three months. The recovery time is up to a year.

"This is a very difficult situation, but something that is necessary," Oughton said. "I am prepared for the rehab that lies ahead and look forward to being ready for the 2006 season."

Oughton, a first-round draft pick out of Cal State Fullerton in 2001, has two goals and six assists in 91 career games with the Crew. Both goals came a year ago, including the tying score that clinched the best record in the league for the Crew.
