Mistri to Retire Following 2005 Season Dec. 13, 2004 Fullerton, Calif.
Al Mistri will retire from his post as head men’s soccer coach at
Cal State Fullerton at the conclusion of the 2005 season, which will be
his 25th with the Titans.
Mistri, 58, has compiled a 260-189-39 record in 24 seasons and ranked
22nd in the nation in victories among active coaches entering the 2004
season, which saw the Titans go 6-10-2 overall and 4-6 in the Big West
Conference.
Fullerton has gained the NCAA Tournament six
times in Mistri’s tenure, gaining the national semifinals in 1993.
Mistri has sent numerous Titans into professional soccer including U.S.
Olympians Mike Fox, Joe DiGiamarino and Brian Dunseth.
Mistri began his tenure at Fullerton in 1981 on a part-time basis as he
continued teaching full-time at Damien High School in La Verne. He also
launched the Titans’ women’s program in 1993 and coached that
team as well through the 2000 campaign.
