From the Bench
Oct. 19, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.

Coach Al Mistri:

""We go to Cal Poly this week where we face the most unpredictable field
in the conference.

" I think the results of last Saturday (UCI 2, CSF 1; CSUN 3, UCSB 1;
UCR 5, Cal Poly 4) only reinforce the point that this conference is as
tough as nails. I don't know if there is another one around with such
strength top to bottom.

"The loss by UC Santa Barbara leaves us right where we started Saturday,
but with one less game to play catch up. At UC Irvine for the first
time this year we did not play as well or better in the second half as
we did in the first half. We had some excellent chances in the first
half to increase our lead and didn't get it done.

"All 11 of our games have been decided by a single goal. I've never
seen anything like this.

"The resiliency of our guys is incredible. They were out at practice on
Monday morning all fired up and ready to go at it again."
