Goalkeepers Sparkle as CSF, UCI Tie Nov. 1, 2003 - Fullerton, Calif.
Box Score
Sam Reynolds of Cal State Fullerton and Cameron Rossi of UC Irvine put
on a goaltending clinic Saturday night as the Titans and Anteaters battled
to a scoreless tie in Big West Conference men's soccer action.
Reynolds was credited with 15 saves and Rossi had nine and each made several
at point-blank range. The Anteaters (6-8-2, 3-1-2) fired 23 shots while
the Titans (7-8-2, 3-4-1) took 16.
Despite holding a 16-7-6 advantage in the series since 1975, the Titans
are 0-3-4 in their last seven meetings with UCI dating to the 2000 season.
UCI's Sebastian Galmarini had several excellent opportunities to break
the deadlock. Reynolds stopped him on a pair of shots within five yards
with about 10 minutes to play in regulation and again five seconds before
the regulation horn. Reynolds also deflected with his fingertips at least
three other UCI shots.
Fullerton's Brent Whitfield and Eugene Brooks each had running shots at
Rossi but booted the ball into his body from inside 10 yards. Jason Clifford
put a ball into the net in the eighth minute but was called for offsides.
Fullerton hosts Fresno State in a non-conference match Tuesday night while
UCI hosts Cal Poly on Wednsday night.
