Titans Hand New Mexico First Loss of Season Sept. 29, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score
Senior David Dischner scored a pair of first-half goals and Cal State
Fullerton rode them to a 2-1 non-conference mens soccer victory
Sunday afternoon over previously unbeaten New Mexico.
The win improved the Titans record to 3-4-1 while the Lobos fell
to 8-1.
What proved to be the decisive goal actually was headed into the Lobo
net by a NM defender with 36 seconds left in the first half. Dischner
put a head on a corner kick by Adriano Lima and is credited with the goal
on the errant clearing attempt. Dischners first goal came five minutes
earlier and was a blast from the top of the box off a rebound of a shot
by Brent Whitfield from the right corner.
New Mexico got its goal in the 85th minute when Eric Carlson headed a
shot near post on a corner kick from Junro Narita. Narita had a chance
to tie the match in the final minute but his shot from the top of the
box was just wide left.
Both goalkeepers Sam Reynolds for the Titans and Andrew Weber for
the Lobos recorded 4 saves as each team took 12 shots. The win
evened the all-time series between New Mexico and Cal State Fullerton
at 7 wins each.
