Orellana Selected Big West Player of Week Nov. 19, 2001 – Irvine, Calif.
Sophomore forward Hector Orellana was selected the Big West Conference
Player of the Week for the second time this season after his efforts in
a pair of Titan wins.
The East Los Angeles product was instrumental in the game-winning goals
against Cal Poly SLO and UC Santa Barbara. On Friday night he scored to
break a scoreless tie in the 79th minute to trigger a 3-0 win over Cal
Poly. On Sunday, after the Gauchos had forged a 2-2 tie, he made a nifty
assist on Cameron McKinnon's goal for the 3-2 win.
Orellana finished the year as the team's leading scorer with 22 points
on 9 goals and 4 assists. Brent Whitfield was runnerup with 14 points
on 6 goals and 2 assists.
