Sophomore Bobby Brown scored a game-high 25 points, leading three other
starters in double figures, as Cal State Fullerton advanced in the National
Invitation Tournament with an 85-69 victory over host San Francisco on
Friday night at War Memorial Gym in San Francisco, Calif.
The Titans (21-10) will travel to meet Georgetown on Tuesday (March 22)
in a game to be televised by ESPN. Fullerton has posted wins in 13 of
its last 16 contests. San Francisco ends its season at 17-14 overall.
Brown hit 7-of-17 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers,
and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the line. He also grabbed seven rebounds
on the night. Ralphy Holmes (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Jamaal Brown
(18 points, 11 rebounds) finished with double-doubles for the Titans,
who also got 14 points and eight boards from Yaphett King.
USF was led by John Cox and Jerome Gumbs, who had 17 points apiece in
the loss.
The Titans shot just 33 percent in the second half, but made good on 12
of its first 14 attempts in the second half to pull away from the Dons.
Fullerton outscored USF, 57-39, after the break while shooting 62.5 percent
from the floor. Cal State Fullerton outrebounded the Dons, 44-39, including
a 25-12 margin in the second half.
