Win Over Utah State Gives CSF Winning Season Spencer Nelson had 24 points and 7 rebounds for the Aggies, who fell to 19-7 overall and 10-5 in the Big West in their final conference road game before heading to the Western Athletic Conference next season. The victory improved Fullerton to 15-8, 9-5 and clinched its first winning season since the 1992-93 team went 15-12. Brown's driving bank shot while being knocked to the floor by Nelson and subsequent free throw gave the Titans a 59-57 lead they would not relinquish with 1:31 to play. Jaycee Carroll made one of two free throws at 1:15 but King hit a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left. Nate Harris scored on an inbounds play with 16 seconds left to make it 62-60. Brown made one of two free throws before Jamaal Brown knocked the ball away from Nelson as he was about to try a 3-point shot. Jamaal Brown clinched it with a free throws with six seconds remaining. Utah State, the nation's leader in field-goal percentage, shot 61 percent in the first half to build a 32-24 lead. But Fullerton scored the first 11 points of the second half capped by King's 3-pointer for a 35-32 lead with 15:51 to play. Neither team led by more than 4 points the rest of the way and the score was tied five more times. The Aggies shot only 44 percent in the second half but still made 5 of 9 3-pointers to beat the perimeter-oriented Titans at their own game. However, Fullerton won the battle of the backboards by a 33-27 margin and had 14 offensive rebounds to only 2 for Utah State. Kingled Fullerton with 7 rebounds. Utah State had won the last seven meetings, 11 of the past 12 and 21 of the last 23 including an 84-60 decision in Logan on Jan. 20. Utah State finishes the regular season with home games against Long Beach State, UC Irvine and Idaho. Fullerton plays at UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly before closing at home against the top two teams in the standings -- Pacific and Cal State Northridge. ####
