Div. I Transfers Bolster Titans' Program June 14, 2005 Fullerton, Calif. A pair of former Southern California high school men's basketball stars have left 4-year institutions and signed financial-aid forms to attend Cal State Fullerton in August. Forward Scott Cutley from Westchester High via Kent State and guard Ray Reed from Inglewood High via Georgetown will be eligible to play for the Titans in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Cutley started all but one of the Golden Flashes' 33 games in a 20-13 season last year that took them to the post-season NIT Tournament. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder averaged 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting .495 from the floor. As a freshman in 2003-04 he played in 31 games and averaged 5.0 points and 3.9 rebounds to earn the school's freshman of the year award. Reed came off the bench to play in 31 of the Hoyas' 32 games in a 19-13 season that took them to the post-season NIT as well, including a win over the Titans. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds while playing about 16 minutes per contest. His best game was 10 points and 4 rebounds vs. San Jose State on Dec. 11. As a freshman he played in every game except one of a 13-15 season and averaged 4.0 points and 1.9 rebounds with a high of 14 points vs. Coastal Carolina. “These are two quality players and persons, both happy to be back in Southern California,” said Titans’ third-year Head Coach Bob Burton. “We look forward to the positive contributions they will make to our program.” Cutley will be reunited with former Westchester teammate Bobby Brown, Fullerton’s junior-to-be point guard, with whom he won back-to-back state championships and a mythical national title. Cutley earned all-state, all-city and All-Western League honors. Reed was CIF Southern Section co-player of the year after averaging 24 points, 6 assists and 3 steals at Inglewood. The Sentinels advanced to the CIF Div. II-AA semifinals and were ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation by USA Today during his junior season. Fullerton is coming off its most successful season in years. The Titans lost only two players who finished a 21-11 season that took them three games into the post-season NIT Tournament. ####
