Cal State Fullerton senior Ralphy Holmes had a double-double with 17 points
and a career-high 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Titans fell
in a nail-biter to host Idaho, 61-58, on Saturday night in Moscow, Idaho.
The Titans suffered their third consecutive defeat in falling to 8-7 overall,
3-4 in Big West Conference play. Idaho, which started 0-7 on the year,
improved to 7-11, 5-2 in league play.
Holmes was joined in double figures by Bobby Brown, who added 14 points
in the loss. However, it was Fullerton's shooting that proved to be its
undoing as the Titans hit on just 33 percent of their shots on the night
to the Vandals' 41 percent.
Fullerton had a pair of chances to tie and another attempt to take the
lead in the final 1:30, but missed on all three of its three-point attempts.
A jumper by Dandrick Jones with 3:30 remaining gave the Vandals the lead
for good as Idaho had four chances to score on the exchange.
The Titans led by as many as seven points at the end of the first half,
but a pair of buckets around a Fullerton turnover brought the Vandals
to within 26-23 at the break.
Jones led the Vandals with 18 points while Anton Lyons tallied a double-double
with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Tanoris Shepard added 12 points in the
Idaho win.
