Jermaine Harper's three-point basket with four seconds remaining in the
first overtime period lifted visiting Cal State Fullerton to a 70-68 victory
over host Eastern Washington on Friday night in Cheney, Wash.
The Titans improved to 3-2 overall on the season while the Eagles fell
to 2-4. EWU, the defending Big Sky Conference Champions who are picked
to repeat this year, had lost only 12 home games in the last five seasons
combined.
Fullerton snapped a five-game overtime losing streak dating back to the
2002-03 season that began with a narrow loss in the Big West Tournament
to Utah State.
Harper had a career-high 24 points and was joined by Bobby Brown, who
also had a career-night, scoring a game-high 30 points to lead all players.
Cal State Fullerton led by as many as 18 points in the second half and
led by six points with less than a minute remaining thanks to a pair of
free throws by Brown.
However, the Eagles closed the gap thanks to a 6-for-6 performance at
the line by Mark Axton, including 3-for-3 in the closing seconds that
forced overtime.
Fullerton returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 21) as the Titans hit the
road for a contest at San Diego State at 7:05 p.m.
