Asprilla
Lost for Season to Knee Injury Jan. 14, 2005 Fullerton, Calif. Senior forward Hardy Asprilla will miss the remainder of Cal State Fullerton’s men’s basketball season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee with about 7 minutes to play in Thursday night’s victory over Long Beach State. Asprilla was examined Friday in Orange by Dr. Miguel Prieto. He will undergo surgery in three or four weeks. Asprilla was leading the Titans in rebounding at 8.8 rpg and was third in the Big West Conference. The 6-foot-5 native of Bucamaranga, Colombia, was averaging 8.5 points and typically defended opponents’ top frontline scoring threat. Last year the transfer from College of the Sequoias in Visalia averaged 4.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. Fullerton takes an 8-4 overall record and 3-1 Big West Conference mark into Saturday night’s home game vs. UC Irvine. The Titans are off to their best start since the 1996-97 team also opened 8-4. Ironically, the Titans that year lost leading rebounder and scorer John Williams to a broken hand in the 15th game and finished with a 13-14 record. The Titans have been without projected starting center Lloyd Walls all season due to multiple concussions and senior forward Drew Awad left school in early December after a re-occurrence of acute lymphocytic leukemia that originally was diagnosed in August of 2002 ####
