Pape Sow scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but Cal
State Fullerton suffered a 77-60 season-opening loss to Northern Arizona
in a men's basketball game in Flagstaff Friday night.
The loss spoiled the Division I head coaching debut of Titan Coach Bob
Burton, who had only nine players available. David Warsaw made the trip,
but was unavailable after he suffered an ankle injury in practice, and
Babacar Camara was hospitalized Friday for food poisoning.
NAU built a 36-30 halftime lead and jumped out with a 5-0 run to start
the second half, getting the lead to as many as 15 points.
The Titans then went on a 10-3 run to make the score, 62-54, with less
than seven minutes left. But the Lumberjacks finished the game with a
15-6 run with the help of five points by Chris Ferguson.
The Lumberjacks had three players in double figures led by Kodiak Yazzie,
who scored 18 points. Kyle Feuerbach finished with 10 points and a game-high
six assists, while Aaron Bond added 10 points in 12 first-half minutes.
Sow's 28 points matched his second-best career effort, but no other Titan
scored more than seven points. Fullerton shot just 34 percent from the
floor, though the Titans did outrebound NAU, 43-38.
Fullerton plays at Arizona State on Monday night, while NAU travels to
Tucson to face fourth-ranked Arizona.
