Guard Charles Brown scored a career-high 25 points including the last
5 points of the game Tuesday night to give Loyola Marymount a 71-67 non-conference
victory at Cal State Fullerton.
Keith Kincade added 12 points and 7 rebounds for the Lions, now 7-4. Fullerton
got 33 points and 7 rebounds from Pape Sow but fell to 4-5.
Anthony Bolton made two free throws to give Fullerton a 67-66 lead with
1:19 to play. But the Lions pushed the ball up the court and Brown made
a 3-pointer from the left corner at 1:14. Neither team scored again until
Brown clinched the win with a pair of free throws with 6 seconds left.
Brown also tied up Bolton on a rebound and the possession arrow gave LMU
the ball with 8 seconds left.
Brown made 5 of 9 three-pointers overall and had 8 assists.
Sow made 12 of 13 free throws on his way to the second-best scoring night
of his career and the most points by a Titan since Sows 36-point
effort at Sacramento State on Dec. 6, 2001.
Guard Bobby Brown was the only other Titan in double figures with 12 points.
Bolton had 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
LMU enojoyed the biggest lead of the game at 14-8 in the early going.
Fullertons biggest lead was 5 points at 54-49 with 13:24 to play.
But Brown hit a pair of 3-pointers to bracket a 10-0 Lions run for
a 59-54 lead at 8:48.
Fullerton regained the lead at 65-64 at 3:46 on a pair of Sow free throws
but Keith Kincade scored on an out of bounds play at 3:19, a lead which
lasted until Boltons free throws at 1:19.
Fullerton begins Big West Conference play Saturday night at home to Cal
State Northridge. LMU has a non-conference game at home vs. Colgate on
Friday night before opening West Coast Conference play on Jan. 8 vs. Portland.
