Davin White scored 7 of his team-high 15 points in the final two minutes
Saturday night to rally Cal State Northridge to a ragged 61-55 Big West
Conference victory at Cal State Fullerton.
The Titans got 16 points and 12 rebounds from Pape Sow but fell to 4-6
overall. Northridge is 5-4 overall.
Joseph Frazier had 12 points and Eto Onyenegecha added 10 for the Matadors,
who committed 22 turnovers and shot 37.5 percent from the floor.
Anthony Bolton had 12 points and bobby Brown had 10 for the Titans, who
committed 24 turnovers and shot 35 percent.
Whites 3-point field goal with 1:55 remaining put the Matadors ahead
to stay, 54-52. Onyenegecha hit another one at 0:55 and White added a
dunk shot and two free throws to offset Browns late 3-pointer.
Fullerton had rallied from a 6-point deficit at 5:06 as Sow made a dunk
and Brown made a 3-pointer and then hit a pair of free throws at 2:18
for a shortlived 52-51 lead.
Fullerton has not won a conference opener since the 1994-95 season when
they scored an upset win at UNLV.
CSUN led most of the game with a lead as large as 8 points at 43-35 with
10:06 to play. Fullertons biggest lead was 17-11 after a 12-0 run
over more than six minutes. Fraziers 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining
sent CSUN to the locker room with a 26-24 lead.
Fullerton hosts Pacific on Monday night while the Matadors visit UC Riverside.
