Cal State Fullerton was held to just nine points
in the first half and shot just .231 percent from the field for the game
as host UC Santa Barbara rolled to a 77-44 victory over the visiting Titans
on Saturday night in a Big West Conference men's basketball match-up.
Fullerton fell to 6-12 overall, 2-7 in the Big West. The Gauchos improved
to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in league play.
Both the first-half point total and field goal percentage set school records
for the lowest in program history. The nine first-half points broke the
previous record of 12 set at Oregon State in 2000, and also broke the
record for the fewest points scored in a first half (14) set twice in
1981 and again in 2000.
The field goal percentage broke the previous record of .232, which was
set against San Jose State in 1981.
Pape Sow led the Titans 14 points and eight rebounds while Anthony Bolton
added 11 points.
UCSB was led by Joe See, who had 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the
floor, including five three-pointers. Cecil Brown and Casey Cook came
off the bench to add 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 7) as the Titans
play host to UC Riverside at 7 p.m. at Titan Gym.
