Cal State Fullerton had three players in double figures, but could not
overcome a season high-tying 24 turnovers as Idaho pulled away late en
route to a 66-56 victory over the Titans on Thursday night in Moscow,
Idaho.
The Titans had their three-game winning streak snapped, falling to 9-13
overall, 5-8 in the Big West Conference. The Vandals improved to 11-13
overall, 7-7 in league play.
Senior Pape Sow led the Titans with his ninth double-double of the year,
scoring 15 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Freshman Bobby Brown also added 15 points off the bench while Anthony
Bolton scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards.
Idaho's Tyrone Hayes scored a game-high 18 points, including 12-of-14
from the free throw line. Dwayne Williams and Rashaad Powell were also
in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Cal State Fullerton jumped out to a 15-4 lead seven minutes into the game
as Idaho hit only one of its first 10 shots while the Titans hit six of
their first 10. However, a 13-2 run by the Vandals knotted the game at
17-17.
With the score tied 21 apiece, Idaho scored the final eight points to
head into the lockerroom ahead, 29-21, at halftime.
The Titans closed to within three points early on, but fell behind by
as many as 14 points in the second half. Fullerton got to within five
points at 61-56, but could not get any closer as the Vandals scored the
final five points of the game to complete the scoring.
Fullerton outshot Idaho, .404 to .377 and owned a 40-32 advanatge on the
boards.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday (Feb.
21) as the Titans travel to Logan, Utah, to take on the Utah State Aggies
at 7:05 p.m. (MST).
