Pacific had four players in double figures and shot just under 61 percent
in the first half as the Tigers pulled away from Cal State Fullerton,
78-62, in a men's basketball match up on Thursday night at the Spanos
Center in Stockton.
The Titans fell to 10-16 overall, 6-11 in the Big West Conference. The
Tigers improved to 21-7 overall, 16-1 in league play.
To gain the Big West Conference post-season tournament, Fullerton must
win Saturday night at Cal State Northridge or Cal Poly must lost at home
Saturday night to UC Irvine.
Pape Sow led the Titans with a double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing
13 rebounds. Yaphett King added 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting and tallied
three steals, while Anthony Bolton notched 12 points on 5-of-13 from the
field.
Pacific was led by Miah Davis, who scored a team-high 23 points on 8-of-12
shooting from the field. Guillaume Yango added 12 points, while Tyler
Newton came off the bench to tally a double-double with 11 points and
11 rebounds. Jasko Korajkic had 10 points as the Tigers bench outscored
their Fullerton counterparts, 28-9.
Cal State Fullerton led by as many as five points on two different occassions
in the opening 6:30, but a 7-2 run by the Tigers tied the score at 14-14
and a bucket by Newton gave Pacific its first lead of the ballgame, one
they would not relinquish.
Fullerton tied the game twice in the next minute, but a 20-2 run by the
Tigers over the next seven minutes gave Pacific an insurmountable 18 point
lead at 39-21 with 2:45 remaining.
After a pair of baskets by the Titans cut it to 14, Pacific scored six
of the final 10 points to head into the lockerroom up, 45-29, at the break.
The Tigers led by as many as 20 points on three different occassions in
the second half.
