Denver Lopez is one of only five returning lettermen for the Titans... A walk-on transfer who sat out the 2000-01 season after transferring from Div. II Cal State Dominguez Hills, he provided dependable relief to Derick Andrew last season at point guard and will compete for more playing time at the position this season... "One of my biggest regrets about last season was not giving Denver more playing time," says Coach Daniels... "We will give him every opportunity this year"... Lopez was one of only four players (Brandon Campbell, Derick Andrew and Ryan Dillon) to appear in all 27 games last year... He averaged 1.6 points and 1.0 assists in exactly 10 minutes per game... His best game came at Pacific on Jan. 26 when he played a season-high 18 minutes and got 7 points including a pair of 3-point field goals... His high assist total was 3 vs. UC Riverside on Feb. 9. CSU DOMINGUEZ HILLS: Averaged 5.4 points and 0.9 assists in 1999-2000 for the Toros... Appeared in 20 games, 10 as a starter... Averaged about 17 minutes... Shot 40 per cent from 3-point range (14 of 35). NOGALES HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year varsity letterman at Nogales High School in La Puente for Coach Bob Withers... Was team and Sierra League most valuable player as a senior and earned second-team All-CIF and all-valley honors... Averaged 12 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds... His Nobles won the Sierra League title and advanced to the CIF quarterfinals... Earned honorable mention as a junior... Made the honor roll all four years. PERSONAL: Born on Sept. 2, 1980, in Manila, the Philippines... Mother is Dinna Martinez of West Covina... Has an older sister, Donna, and an older brother, Donald... His mother was a big fan of singer John Denver, hence the name... Child adolescence major whose goal is to become an elementary school teacher... Enjoys hunting, deep sea diving, croquet and tree climbing... Worked last summer as an instructor in the popular Titan Youth Sports Camps.
