Marquis Poole scored 20 points and Scott Henry added 17 points and a game-high
11 rebounds Saturday night to lead Idaho State to a 79-70 non-conference
victory at Cal State Fullerton.
The Bengals improved to 3-4 on the season while the Titans fell to 1-6.
Fullerton was led by Pape Sow with 21 points and Ralphy Holmes with 14
points and eight rebounds.
The smaller Bengals outrebounded the Titans by a 41-25 margin and got
several put-back baskets from their 12 offensvie rebounds.
The game was deadlocked at 45 with 12:52 to play after a Sow bucket when
the Bengals went on an 8-0 run with Poole making a 3-point play and Arzelle
Lewis tossing in a 3-pointer. Fullerton got within 3 points at 54-51 before
Idaho State pulled away for good, building a lead as big as 11 points
at 70-59 with 2:00 to play after a Danny Boticki layup.
Fullerton was hampered by injuries. Sow turned an ankle with 2:25 to go
in the first half and came out of the game. He played with a limp in the
second half and didnt play the final two minuts. Reserve forward
Bron Groomes was carried off the floor after an ankle injury with 14 minutes
to play and did not return.
Idaho State shot 62 percent from the floor in the second half, making
16 of 26 shots, ISU ended up hitting 54 percent for the game. Fullerton
shot only 56 percent from the foul line, missing 12 of 27 attempts.
The two teams meet again in Pocatello, Idaho, on Jan. 14.
