Hot-Shooting Waves Hold Off Fullerton

Boomer Brazzle and Jimmy Miggins scored 20 points each and Alex Acker
added 19 off the bench Wednesday night as Pepperdine held off Cal State
Fullerton, 90-87, in a non-conference game.
Ralphy Holmes scored 29 points, Pape Sow added 15 points and 12 rebounds
and Zakee Smith totaled 17 assists in a losing effort for the Titans.
Pepperdine evened its record at 2-2 while the Titans fell to 1-3.
Pepperdine led by 11 at the half and held an 81-71 advantage with six
minutes to play. But the Titans went on a 14-6 run to pull within 87-85
on two Sow free throws with 1:22 to play. The Titans got the ball back
after an offensive foul but Derick Andrew and Holmes missed layups and
the Waves hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final minute.
Fullerton led only twice in the game at 20-19 and 22-21 midway through
the first half.
The Waves made 10 of 18 3-point field goals and shot 61 per cent from
the floor to offset Fullerton's 38-23 edge on the backboards. Fullerton
made only 5 of 22 tries from 3-point range but grabbed 18 offensive rebounds.
Fullerton plays at Loyola Marymount on Saturday night while the Waves
host UC Santa Barbara the same night.
