Men's Basketball Players
David Castleton took over as point guard just before the beginning of conference play last season and helped solidify the Titans' backcourt... He is expected to miss the Fall semester games again because of a shortage of academic units... He is a multi-talented athlete (football and basketball) who walked onto the Cal State Fullerton program during the summer of 2000... Natural leader who plays with a lot of enthusiasm, grit and desire. CSF IN 2000-01: Missed the first seven games because of transfer problems with his classes at Brigham Young and Orange Coast JC and didn't start until game No. 10 vs. Northern Arizona... Started every other game the balance of the season... Averaged 7.8 points, 3.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds... Twice scored 16 points in a game... Had best of 8 assists vs. Boise State on Jan. 31... Played at least 30 minutes in every game he started with the exception of Boise State on Feb. 8 when he suffered a dislocated right shoulder with about 10 minutes to play... But he came back two nights later to play 36 minutes at Utah State. ORANGE COAST JC: Two-year, two-sport standout for the Costa Mesa-based Pirates... As a sophomore was the leading scorer in the Orange Empire Conference in 1999-2000 with a 22.6 points per game scoring average... Won all-conference and all-state honors... In football was a third-team All-American and All-Orange Empire Conference selection as a wide receiver... Caught 53 passes for 958 yards and 4 TDs last Fall... His longest gain was a 63-yard reception. MATER DEI HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year varsity letterman in football (WR/QB/RB) and basketball (guard) for Santa Ana-based parochial school... As a senior, won third-team All-American "grid-hoop" honors... Won first-team all-state and all-league honors and second-team All-CIF recognition in basketball for Coach Gary McKnight... Won third-team All-American, second-team all-state and first-team All-CIF honors in football... As a junior was first-team all-league in both football and basketball while earning first-team All-CIF honors in football and second team in basketball... As a sophomore was second-team all-league in both sports... Also competed in track and field as a senior in the long jump. PERSONAL: Born on Apr. 6, 1978, in Newport Beach... Parents are Stan and Linda Castleton... Has three younger sisters -- Debbie, Rachel and Mary... Business administration/finance major who hopes to become a land developer like his father... Originally attended Brigham Young University... Most memorable sports thrill was playing football at Edison International Field in Anaheim before 38,000 fans for the CIF football championship... Credits legendary Coach John Wooden for greatest influence on his career after only a few hours of conversation... Enjoys golf and watching good movies.
