Dec. 1, 2001 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

Donta Richardson scored 19 points including 10 during a key five-minute run to lead Wyoing to an 86-71 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton. Paris Corner added 14 points off the bench as Wyoming improved to 4-2, 3-0 at home, despite trailing Fullerton by as many as 13 points in the first half.

Pape Sow led the Titans with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Brandon Campbell had 18 points and 8 rebounds as Fullerton fell to 1-4.

Fullerton played without center Babacar Camara, who was ill, and Wyoming played without senior guard Chris McMillian, who has been slow to recover from a summer ankle injury and may sit out the season as a redshirt.

Fullerton missed its first eight shots from the floor but still jumped out to leads of 10-4 and 22-9 as the Cowboys struggled offensively and star forward Josh Davis picked up two early fouls. The Titans held a 25-14 lead after a Sow 3-pointer with 7:44 to go in the half and then the Cowboys exploded behind Richardson, who was making his first Div. I start.

Wyoming outscored the Titans 27-10 before intermission for a 41-35 lead and then tallied the first five points of the second half to lead by 11 points. The Titans stayed within striking distance and were down by only 8 points at 69-61 with 8:25 to play but failed to score on three possessions and the Pokes finally went on an 8-0 run to seal the decision.

Wyoming is the defending Mountain West Conference champion and the consensus favorite to win the title again.

Fullerton goes back on the road for a Thursday game at Sacramento State before returning home to host Point Loma on Saturday night.
