Beat Titans at the Buzzer Dec. 22, 2001 – Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Nick Jones' 3-point basket as the buzzer sounded Saturday night gave UC Santa Barbara a 64-62 Big West Conference men's basketball victory at Cal State Fullerton. The Gauchos got a career-high 32 points from junior forward Mark Hull to improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big West. But they had to overcome a 3-point play by Fullerton's Kevin Richardson over 6-foot-9 Adama Ndiaye with 1.2 seconds remaining. Richardson's free throw gave the Titans (3-7, 0-2) a 62-61 lead. Richardson led the Titans with 17 points. Branduinn Fullove threw a length-of-the-court pass that 6-foot-7 Hull and Fullerton's 6-foot-1 Derick Andrew leaped for and the ball caromed directly to Jones, who shot from about 25 feet out at a slight angle. He was the only other Gaucho in double figures with 12 points. Hull scored 29 of his points -- and all but nine of his team's 38 points -- in the second half, hitting 6 of 7 3-point tries and 9 of 11 free throws. But he missed one of two free throws that left UCSB with only a 61-59 lead with 12.2 seconds remaining. Fullerton had only three leads in the game -- at 3-0, 45-43 with 9:47 to play and in the final second. UCSB's biggest lead in the first half was 26-19 and in the game was 41-33 with 14:48 to play after a Hull 3-pointer. He went on to score UCSB's next 17 points as well and no other Gaucho scored until Jones hit a pair of free throws with 32.8 seconds left. On that play, Fullerton's Pape Sow fouled out with 12 points and a game-high 7 rebounds. Each team shot 18 free throws with UCSB hitting 13 toi Fullerton's 10. Fullerton, which is 0-2 in conference play by a combined 3 points, plays a non-conference game Saturday at Northern Arizona. UCSB plays Detroit Mercy in the Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara on Friday.
