Drought Kills Titans' Upset Try Jan. 3, 2002Irvine, CA. UC Irvine rallied from a seven-point deficit in the second half to defeat Cal State Fullerton, 68-58, in a Big West Conference game before 2,088 at the Bren Events Center Thursday night. The victory extended the Anteaters home-court winning streak to 17, dating back to last season. UC Irvine outscored the Titans 23-6 in the final eight minutes and hit 8 of 10 free throws in the last 51 seconds to seal the win and improve to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Big West. Three Anteaters scored in double figures, led by senior guard Jerry Green with 18 points. Sophomore center Adam Parada added 15 points, while junior forward Jordan Harris had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Harris also had four steals in the game. Sophomore forward Matt Okoro came off the bench to score six points and grab eight rebounds. The Anteaters started their comeback after trailing 52-45 with 8:37 remaining. A jumper in the key by Parada gave UC Irvine a 53-52 lead with 3:43 left. Junior guard Mike Hood hit a 15-foot jumper with 2:50 remaining to put UCI ahead 55-52, and after Fullertons Josh Fischer ended the Titans' scoring drought by converting a layup with 2:12 left, Hood canned a three-point field goal with 1:49 remaining to extend the lead to four points at 58-54 and the Titans were forced to foul down the stretch. Junior forward Brandon Campbell led Fullerton (3-9, 0-3) with 15 points and senior guard Kevin Richardson added 12 points before fouling out with 4:31 remaining. UC Irvine outrebounded the Titans 42-29, including 27-12 in the second half. The Titans travel to Long Beach State on Saturday night. The 49ers blew a late lead and lost Thursday night to UC Riverside.
