Box Score
Brandon Campbell scored a career-high 28 points Saturday night and Cal
State Fullerton erased a couple of long losing streaks with a season-ending
64-62 Big West Conference victory at Cal Poly SLO.
The win left Fullerton's record at 5-22 and 2-16 in Big West play. The
victory also snapped a 10-game losing streak this year, a 17-game road
losing streak dating to Jan. 17, 2001, and averted matching the team's
worst Div. I season record. The loss left Cal Poly at 15-11 and 9-9 and
was only its second home loss of the season.
Campbell hit 9 of 11 shots from the floor including 4 of 5 from 3-point
range to lead the Titans to their best "trey" shooting of the
year, making 10 of 17 with Ryan Dillon adding 5 of 8 for 15 points. Campbell
also hit 6 of 7 free throws including two in the final two minutes after
Cal Poly had cut an 11-point Titan lead to 4 at 62-58. The Mustangs had
two possessions to tie the game after getting within three points. But
a Varnie Dennis inside shot was blocked by Pape Sow and Steve Geary made
one of two free throws in the final second before Dillon rebounded the
second try that was missed on purpose.
Cal Poly used an opening run of 7-0 and later an 11-0 spurt to take its
biggest leads of the game at 7-0 and 25-18. But the Titans had a 14-4
spurt to end the first half capped by Campbell's 3-pointer at the buzzer
and they opened the second half with a 14-7 run. The biggest lead was
12 at 58-46.

other 9 Titan points as only four players scored for Fullerton. The Titans
